Porro Prism binoculars offer the best combination of price vs. performance for astronomers who don't mind a slightly less compact design. The minimal amount of glass and coatings required for this more traditional 'dog-leg' style of binoculars makes them both inexpensive and comparatively lightweight, but grants the user a more substantial aperture - key of course for astronomical observations.

The 'standard' size astronomy binocular is always a 10x50 (10x Magnification, 50mm aperture) - but consider a lower magnification such as 7x50 if you find it hard to hold a 10x50 steady. Alternatively we have some more compact 7x30 and 8x40 models which might not quite have the light gathering, but do make an excellent general purpose field glass.

If your thirst is for even bigger aperture (or more magnification) check out our Observation Binoculars section.
